A few months ago I noticed that birkenstocks – yes, those german sandals you used to wear with funny socks in the 90s – are making a comeback! I first noticed them on the runways of my fave label Celine.
They were furry and cute but were they wearable IRL? I really don’t know. And wait, how can Birkenstocks be cool again? In my head “I DON’T THINK SO”. Lo and behold, my personal style icons the Olsen twins started sporting them around the streets of NYC and LA.
You know, once MKA start wearing something you need to take notice.
I NEED TO GO TO THE BIRKENSTOCKS STORE STAT.
I also saw those Celine furkenstocks at the Barneys Warehouse sale – was THISCLOSE to getting them at 50% off but my sane and very sensible side won that day – just bought a few pairs of louboutins I can wear for work. Yes, I’m mature na.
I don’t like selfies and I haven’t done an outfit shot in ages. But here it goes:
Grey top – H&M
Boyfriend cut jeans – Joe’s Jeans
Sandals – Birkenstocks (And yup, bought exactly the same pair that Ashley Olsen has. )
I super love these sandals and honestly, when you get to my age, comfort over pain. Big plus when comfort meets style, though. HAHAHA!
(Yes, CVS, sumusunod ako sa uso! LOL))
I am completely enamored by Alex and Ani charmed arms bracelets every since I got my first two a few months back.
They were gifts from Celine and Kristel, and I felt these were so me. Obviously for the initial and of course, the special significance of NYC in my life.
A few weeks ago, I came across the crosswrap bracelet and became obsessed! I had texted the three point retail girls and although it was sold out, they were waiting for shipment. I luckily had a gold one reserved and after some time of patiently waiting and trying to schedule a trip to their SM Aura kiosk, I finally got it!
Love at first sight!! <3 <3 <3
And no visit to the Alex and Ani booth would be complete without getting a few extras. Because I have been on an intimate religious journey the past few years, the Mother Mary charm was a must-have while to balance things off, the astrological leo charm represents the fire sign queen that I am. I KNOW, ironic and maybe blasphemous but I have eccentric beliefs and I like the mix of both religious and pagan rituals.
Alex and Ani Charmed Arms bracelets are perfect “Arm swags” – you can pile them on like there’s no tomorrow. I am planning to buy a few more because they are quite cute and not to mention, somewhat of a cheap thrill. It also represents so much positive energy which is what I am all about nowadays. LOLs. (I know, if you follow my tweets, I am quite the Positive Patty )

Fresh from the California Coast (USA), Kameleonz © is the hottest new sunglass brand to hit the tropics.
Kameleonz is the brain child of motorcycle-riding, rock-climbing, beach-bumming and all around outdoor-loving brothers Sean and Justin Bingham. The bros recognized a lack of affordable, customizable and most importantly functional designs in the American eyewear market.
This resulted in revolutionary new sunglasses, the first with colorful interchangeable side arms, rubber soft-touch finish and full protection UV 400 lenses that launched just in time for the wet hot American summer of 2013.

While trying to psyche myself up for The XX gig last Tuesday evening, I accidentally landed on my TLC playlist – I know..ang labo..BUT..it was alphabetical so you know..THE XX playlist was actually close to TLC But I digress…
I started obsessively listening to TLC for the rest of the week. I remember in high school, although I was really a rock chick, the iconic 90s all-girl group was really hard to ignore and I LOVED THEM!
I went through a TLC/fashion phase. 90s chicks, we have to come clean about this – yes, I used to wear overalls and Doc Martens and oversized shirts. :/
See, during my time in Pisay, we had “Casual” or Wash day Wednesdays. We could wear almost anything we wanted and for a Filipino uniform-wearing school teen, that is the epitome of freedom.
I would base my Wednesday outfits on stuff I saw on MTV, magazines(YM and Seventeen) and movies. And during the early 90s, TLC was pretty much on MTV 24/7.
Remember those looney tunes characters wearing baggy/hip hop clothes? Yes, I had a few shirts like those, too, because I really thought they were cool(and I know Celina has a few as well). HAHAHA.(and wow, 90s truly is coming back based on this list)
IKR. Don’t worry I didn’t wear condom earrings. HA! I also remember having these leather bracelets made with the words crazy-sexy-cool for Christmas of 1993. LOL!
TLC was also pioneering as they talked about women empowerment, female friendship and relationships.
But more than anything, they played an infectious brand of RNB/Hip-Hop that transcends the test of time. (Too sad that Left-eye, my favorite TLC girl, passed away already)
And thanks to Macy for the heads up, I am too excited about the VH1 movie about TLC!!
Tala Manila’s Mavis Manotoc-Fuentabella collaborates with her cousin Vanessa Mayuga-Santos to launch Stella by Tala. Named after Vanessa’s precocious little girl, this new children’s line combine’s TALA Manila’s own philosophy of timeless and reliable pieces made with quality fabrics and also within an affordable price range.
Last summer, the line was launched and it showcases the most popular styles of Tala tailored for little girls in fun colors, fabrics, and prints. Their belief is that clothes for kids (just as for moms) should be of the best quality and are good investments as well. They strive to create pieces that the girls can grow into and use for a longer time.
An example of this is the limited edition “CARMEN” embroidered dress that can convert to a top when the girls grow a little taller. This is the central showpiece in the collection.
It is very special to them as it is named after their grandmother Carmen La’O Manotoc, who was the source of warmth and strength in both their lives while they were growing up.
Stella by Tala as well as TALA Manila and Grubbies are available at their own free-standing store at Three Salcedo Place called UPSTAIRS. Besides Mavis’ own line and her collab with cousin Vanessa, UPSTAIRS also features brands they love – accessories, other clothing labels like Vania Romoff and Paula And Baby.
