HAIR. I have coarse, thick, unruly hair! So I need to get regular nourishing treatments (keratin; powerdose; hair spa). At home, I rotate shampoos and conditioners, and these have pretty much been my picks in recent months. I normally switch them up every 4-5 days, and every Sunday, I use the Schwarzkopf Essensity Hair Mud on the tips. My regular shampoos are Human Nature’s Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner in Mandarin Orange; Avalon Organics Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner in Lavendar; Dove Hair Therapy for Falling Hair Shampoo & Conditioner. After treatments, I use Davines’ NaturalTech Energizing Shampoo (post-hair spa). I also like Brown Belly’s Sexy Beach Coconut Shampoo (love the scent!). On product-heavy days, I always wash with Body Shop’s Rainforest Balance, and then smooth the tips with Human Nature Sunflower oil when drying.

BATH & BODY: I use a variety of body washes. Yes, I’m kind of a bath & body junkie! I love trying them out, and I eventually stick with seasonal favorites. My roster always includes Johnson’s Baby Milk Bath, the Dove white bar — my must-haves —, Physiogel (for underarms, elbows and for the occasional shaving-of-the-legs when I’m strapped for time to wax). I also always have a good body scrub on hand, such as Brown Belly’s This Scrub Is My Love Body Scrub in Coconut-Lemongrass or St. Ives’ Apricot Anti-Blemish scrub. I’ve also always been into all-in-one soaps, and my favorites are Dr. Wood’s Black Soap with Shea Butter, Brown Belly’s body wash (in that yummy coconut scent) and Dr. Bronner’s Castille Soap in Peppermint. I can use these for my hair, too, when needed, such as when I’m traveling — so convenient! Others: Human Nature feminine wash and Alba Aloe Deodorant Stick.

MOISTURIZING: I have sensitive combination skin, so I have to be religious about moisturizing. For my hands, I always use Mustela Stelaprotect after hand-washing or doing chores like washing the dishes. (Nope, I don’t have a maid to do my house chores, and I love it!) When my hands get extremely dry, I use Moogoo Psoriasis Balm, which is a natural anti-dermatitis treatment, followed by Burt Bee’s Hand Salve, then I wear cotton gloves. Post-bath, I like spritzing on Pevonia’s Dry Oil Mist on my legs and arms. The Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Lotion is for when I do the whole fragrance layering thing, as is the Brown Belly Better Butter Lotion in Island Coconut, which I use when I use the shampoo, body wash and scrub. I end up smelling like a beach babe afterwards, haha. For daily moisturizing (and because I like smelling like a baby), it’s Johnson’s Baby Lotion, which I also use on my son.

FACE: I have a pretty boring facial care regimen, because I just can’t use so much product on my face, or I break out. My mainstays are Tea Tree Foaming Wash, SPF 50 Gel, Skin Nutrient Gel, and a glycolic toner, all from Skin Perfect, where I go for facial treatments twice a month. My toner and facial bar are derma-prescribed. I don’t need a lot of moisturizing, because of my combination skin, so I only use lightweight moisturizers like Celeteque’s Advance Anti-Aging Facial Moisturizer and the Anti-Wrinkle Collagen Gel. For eyes: Pond’s Gold Radiance eye cream does the trick. Twice a week, I use Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask, to help tighten my super huge pores, and I use Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Minimizing Lotion daily. For dark spots and blemish marks, I love Human Nature’s Natural Sunflower Beauty Oil.

MAKEUP: I got started on makeup late in life (haha). I don’t wear it daily, but I’ve learned that I need it at my age, at least to brighten me up so I don’t look like a haggard mama. I just use basics, usually recommendations from friends and my derma. If ever I need to get totally glammed up (which is very, very rare), I have one of my makeup-loving friends do me up. (What are friends for, right?) I keep a small makeup bag with me at all times, just so I can get decent on the fly.

For the face: Shu Uemura POREraser; Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow in Honey; Fake Up Concealer; Shiseido Pureness Matifying Stick. (My Kiehl’s pore-minimizing lotion already does a great job on my face, but I feel I need a bit of help when I’m out of the house, and the matifying stick is a face-saver.)

For my eyes: Benefit They’re Real Mascara (I’m fortunate to have long lashes, so these add some body); Eye of Horus Smokey Eye Pencil; Bobbi-to-Go eyeshadow, which I don’t really use but keep on hand. Lips & cheeks: Like I said, I’m a fan of all-in-1 products, so Benefit’s lip and cheek stains are great for me. Currently, I’m using up the rest of the summer’s Cha-Cha Tint, but I normally use Benetint. I don’t like lipsticks, so I don’t buy them regularly. I’m happy with Terra Tint. I use Carmex daily whether or not I use lip color. Lastly, I always have Body Shop’s Tea Tree blotting tissues on hand, because I get shiny pretty fast.

NAILS & HANDS: I like going to the nail spa, and I always take my mani kit with me when I do. I love Dazzle Dry’s nail system: nail prep, base coat, top coat and polish line. It’s non-yellowing, because it doesn’t contain nitrocellulose. I’ve been using this system ever since I got my hands on it almost two years ago. (Available locally now at dazzledry.ph)

For post-spa nails and daily nare care, I use Earth Therapeutics Nail & Cuticle Care lotion. You can even use this over your polish, to provide nourishment for the nail bed.

FRAGRANCE: I’m a creature of habit, so I’ve stuck with these scents throughout the years. Daily: Mustela Agua di Colonia (alcohol-free), which I share with my son. I like spritzing this on after a shower, if I’m just staying home. Daily, going-out: It’s either Lacoste’s Joy of Pink (or a Touch of Pink) or Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea or Green Tea Camelia eau de toilette. I also like Ferragamo Incanto Bloom, usually for weekends.

  4. Thanks Martine!!

Hi RJ – I do glossy because of the women I want to feature. It really is more of a feminist thing about it, so many Filipinas are successful at their own chosen fields and it’s not limited to an occupation or industry. Thanks for following glossy!
