New Obsession: Burger Bar

I’ve been hearing a lot and have been seeing all the instagram photos about Burger Bar. Remember, buzz doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good. I had to wait for a few people whose taste I trust to give the new “it” place a thumbs up. Thankfully, the positive signs came just right around the time I was craving for a juicy burger.

Brought along my friend TJ for a quick weekday lunch. Good thing we went relatively early as the place is small and can be jampacked. We didn’t dilly-dally and zeroed in on our burgers. But before any of that, I took a note of the kinds of patties the place serves:

The Beef Bomb – combination of Chuck and Short Rib
The Steak Cut – combination of Sirloin and Chuck
The Big Game – combination of Hanger and Brisket
House Blend – secret mix

I thought that was pretty meticulous of them to offer different mixes. They also have different burger combinations and we ordered these:

The hangover burger - cheddar cheese, egg, arugula, crispy prosciutto #burgers #thisiswhyimfat #burgerbarph @burgerbarph #food #foodporn #foodforfoodies #igfood #instafood #igdaily #instadaily #instagram #instagood #instamood #instacool #picoftheday #pho
The Hangover Burger beds onion griddled Big Game Blend with yellow cheddar, crisp prosciutto, fried egg, arugula, caramelized onions, BBQ sauce, and house aioli inside a sesame bun. Our server mentioned something that had honey in this combination and I told him to hold the honey. Not a fan of too much sweet in my savory meal. You can also order your burgers with double pattie since I didn’t want to eat my feelings that day, I just ordered the single. I loved my burger – the juicy burger was perfect with the peppery arugula and salty prosciutto.

My friend ordered the Rising shroom – mustard-fried patty featuring BurgerBar’s Steak-cut Blend is further flavored with fried oyster mushroom tempura, white truffle creamed cheese, and sauteed mushrooms in a kaiser roll. I didn’t get to try it but he said he liked his burger and will be coming back to taste the other combinations.

Onion rings at burger bar. They're good ha! #burgerbarph @burgerbarph #burgers #thisiswhyimfat #food #foodporn #foodforfoodies #igfood #instafood #igdaily #instadaily #instagram #instagood #instamood #instacool #picoftheday #photooftheday #bestoftheday #
We were not fond of their fries whether it was the super thin shoestring-type ones or the truffle variety, so skip that and go for these. Burger Bar Onion Rings were AMAZING!!! Crunchy and not soggy and also not oily! I couldn’t figure out the flavors – I was thinking maybe paprika and nutmeg but whatever it is, it is the best onion rings I’ve tried in Manila.

I love Banana-based desserts so we ordered a Black and White Banana Split – layers of chocolate brownies, bananas, vanilla and chocolate ice creams, caramel sauce topped with whipped cream, peanuts and strawberry syrup. NOM!

My new strategy in life is have very low expectations so that there is less disappointment and thankfully, Burger Bar was a very pleasant surprise and exceeded my own jaded-ness. I cannot wait to try the other burgers and try the fried pickles!

  1. The logo’s almost an exact copy of Shake Shack’s ah.

But I’m excited to try this. I love that they’re open ’til late. Just in case I get another craving for a post-work burger at midnight. LOL.

  2. How would you compare it with shake Shack? I haven’t found a replacement for SS here in Manila.

  4. I think the seasoning on the onion rings is just plain old barbecue powder. Which they may or may not have tweaked a little.
