spent the long weekend in cebu. needed a break from all that gloomy-ness that is manila. i was very glad that the weather in the queen city of the south cooperated. we had three days of sun, sand and sea!

we stayed at the hilton and we were welcomed by their fancy pink jeepney. as you can see, paris would be so proud

i’ve been to cebu several times before but jean, who has recently gotten into photography, wanted to go around and take photos of cebu’s historical sites. (THANK YOU KATE TORRALBA for everything!

as for me? i just really wanted to get a tan. HAHA!

monday morning, i woke up extra early and found this at the beach

aww. isn’t that sweet? i was trying to figure out though if the person who wrote this was referring to the billy joel song or the one by bruno mars! LOL. anyway, the “grace” one is by me, thought it would be cute to write my name on the sand, too!

and now, i’m back in gloomy manila. haaaaay.

i first encountered the nespresso system through my hk-based coffee-loving aunt and uncle. i love and need coffee every day so i was pretty much impressed with the whole nespresso thing. the nespresso system basically makes espresso-making idiot proof with a specialized espresso machine using single-use espresso capsules, like these:

these aluminum capsules are packed with different blends of robusta and arabica coffee with names such as arpeggio, livanto, cosi, etc. my favorite is the livanto. so i decided during my last trip to HK to get myself my own machine.

making espesso with the machine is easy-peasy! you pop in a capsule on the top of the machine by lifting the top-most arm and dropping it in the slot. then you just push either the left or the right button to indicate the size of espresso you want. et voilà!

a perfect espresso cup every time! the only tough part about it is, nespresso system – both the machine and capsule- are only available in nespresso boutiques abroad or on the internet. so i had to buy several boxes or rely on the kindness of others for my nespresso capsule fill.

but wait! i did find an importer that sells capsules by the box. a box of 10 lunggo capsules were 550, the regulars were 500. a little steep but if you include shipping and taxes, the prices are not so bad.

It’s no secret I’m obsessed with Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon. Does the name ring a bell? Lourdes or Lola, as her mother calls her, is only Madonna’s first- born.

When your mom is one of the biggest pop stars in the world, certain expectations need to be met. Questions like, is she going to go the same route as her mother? Will she be as cool as her mom, or will she turn out like Chastity “Chaz” Bono?

One can only imagine the kind of mother Madonna is. Rumors about not allowing her kids to watch television or making her kids eat macrobiotic food sound ridiculous, even worrisome, because us Madonna fans feel responsible for how the children are raised.

And why not? Madonna is our mother after all. And as Lola grew up before our eyes, doubts about her coolness and upbringing just faded away.
