one of the things my non-finance/corporate friends ask me all the time is “what the hell is the US credit crisis?”, complete with a confused look. well, to make it all simple, i suggest you guys give a listen to this american life’s podcast of “the giant pool of money“. it’s a simple, well-balanced yet riveting presentation of the cause of the current US recession from all sides of the story – wall street financial engineers, mortgage brokers, creditors and everything in between.
but speaking of this american life(TAL), i absolutely love this podcast. it is quite possibly the BEST weekly podcast on earth. TAL is a journalistic non-fiction show featuring personal essays, memoirs and short fiction- basically an audio documentary hosted by a self-depricating genius named ira glass(and i admit, i have a strange “radio” crush on him too). i first heard about TAL through NPR(america’s national public radio), another radio stream i adore and deserves a separate post all together. i usually listen to the podcast on sunday mornings while i run around in UP or do an hour on the ellipticals at the gym. i love how personal, engaging, evocative, tactile AND visual it is, you can actually feel like you’re talking to these people yourself. i love it enough to actually donate a meager amount of money twice a year to keep it alive and free on iTunes. i highly recommend it.
